Grade level competitions will be held this week. The top two winners at each grade level have the opportunity to compete at the district level on January 17th at Crosshill Christian School in Turner, Oregon.

12-03-13 - Christmas Trees for Sale
Purchase your tree at Horizon Christian School and the proceeds will go to students who are planning a Spring Break mission trip to Mexico. Sizes vary and all trees are $20. The trees are available now at the school campus.
12-03-13 - Horizon Student Qualifies for Nationals Horizon 9th grade student Jony Nelson qualified for the Cross-Country Nationals in the 15-16 year old 5k race. He will compete in San Antonio, Texas on December 14. Jony, who runs cross-country for The Dalles, plans to run with the Horizon Christian track team next spring. Congratulations, Jony!

11-26-13 - Horizon Student Recognized
Austin Requa was recognized as the October Hood River Elks Student of the month at a recent event where he was awarded a $100 scholarship. The Elks select a senior guy or gal each month during the school year based on their achievements in school and their community involvement, including leadership, activities, service, and aca-demics. Those chosen during the year will be invited to a banquet at the end of the year where they are considered for additional scholarships. Austin, a 4.0 senior, is involved in soccer, basketball, and track. He is on the forensic team, is an Eagle Scout and a talented pianist. Congratulations, Austin!

11-19-13 Forensics Team Comes Out Strong Congratulations to our new forensics team! Five students attended last Saturday's meet in Tillamook, including Amy Requa, William Decker, Shaun Wang, Austyn Requa, and Luke Kempf. Amy and William took 1st place in a Public Forum competition that included experienced debaters. Their assignment was to discuss whether the benefits of NSA surveillance outweigh the negatives. Shaun and Austyn also participated in a public forum debate and Luke in a radio commentary. Their next competition will be December 7.
11-14-13 Horizon First in Oregon State to Achieve Level Two Status in Safety
Horizon Christian School starts this school year with something no other Oregon school public or private has, a 3rd party objectively measured designation marking their progress and commitment to an even safer school operation. What Does a Horizon Graduate Look Like? Horizon Christian School has developed a document called, "What Does a Horizon Graduate Look Like", which focuses on three desired outcomes for each student in the areas of Academics, Biblical Truth, and Character Development. Last spring the document was used as a tool in exit interviews with graduating seniors. That data, from both graduates and their teachers, was shared at the summer retreat of trustees and teachers and is being used to give direction and aid in continued program development.
