Mr. Block has a BS in Business Administration from the University of Oregon and attended Western Conservative Baptist Seminary. He spent four years in the US Navy as a Disbursing Clerk. He worked for the US Post Office for over 30 years; retiring from the position of Postmaster of White Salmon after 24 years. He has been with Horizon Christian School since March 2005. He and his wife, Carole, have three children and three grandchildren, and they attend Grace Baptist Church in White Salmon, Washington.


Paster Bruce Parker

Chaplain

Pastor Bruce has been Chaplain at Horizon Christian School since September 2007. He is pastor at First Baptist Church and has previous Christian school experience both as a parent and as staff. He is married to Sandy and they have five grown children. Pastor Bruce is an ad hoc member of the Board of Trustees, and works with the the staff in the area of spiritual excellence to promote the spiritual life of students.


Kirk Fisher

Bus Driver

Kirk is a Hood River original. He has lived in the Hood River area his entire life. He has owned and operated Denny’s Place Hamburger & Pizza from 1971-1978 and the Little Bit Ranch Supply from 1983-2003.

Kirk has been a Christian since 1975, and he and his wife, Suzy, attend Grace Baptist Church in White Salmon, WA, where Kirk has taught Sunday School for various age groups for many years. He is currently the janitor for Grace Baptist.

Kirk has been driving the Horizon bus since March 2005.  He and his wife, have three grown children and two grand children. Kirk enjoys watching Oregon Duck football games, motorcycle riding, hiking, cooking and hunting.


Cynnamon Hawkins

Office Manager

Cynnamon Hawkins has been on staff since September 2007. Along with being a "front office gal", she uses her skills to help with technology needs. Cynnamon and her husband, Brandon, have two children at Horizon Christian – Abby and Lizzie. Cynnamon enjoys horses and reading and attends River of Life Assembly.


Faith Kempf

Secondary Principal
Faith Kempf has served as Horizon's Secondary Principal (7th through 12th grade) since July 2013. Kempf has taught for 22 years with 12 of those years at Horizon Christian School. She has a Bachelor's Degree in General Biology from Washington State University and a Washington Teaching Endorsement – All Sciences.

Kempf and her husband, Ray, have three children. They attend Grace Baptist in White Salmon where they are involved in discipleship and outreach. Her other interests include reading, gardening, and raising chickens and peacocks.


 

Lana Kent
Bookkeeper

Lana Kent has been keeping accounts straight at Horizon Christian School since April 2011. Lana and her husband, Don, are raising their grandchildren, Zaine, a Horizon student, and Sydney. Lana likes to love on her family, play piano, read, and walk. They attend Grace Baptist Church in White Salmon.


Becky Sandercock

Becky Sandercock has been on staff since October 2010. She is a receptionist, oversees projects such as student files, immunizations, and ordering, and takes care of bumps and bruises. Becky is married to Greg and has one daughter and a granddaughter. She attends First Baptist Church and enjoys bicycling, hiking, tennis, baking, and trying new recipes.


Kim Spotts - Horizon Elementary Principal

Elementary Principal

Kim Spotts has served as Horizon's Elementary Principal (Pre-K through 6th grade) since May 2008. She earned her Masters of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Oregon in 1991, and her Bachelors of Science degree in Elementary Education from Oregon State University in 1981. Kim has 22 years of teaching experience in both public and private schools. She has been training teachers both stateside and internationally (Kazakstan and India) for over 20 years.

Kim and her husband, Bob, live in Hood River and enjoy traveling. Their two sons are both former students of Horizon.

During her hours away from Horizon, Kim enjoys volunteering at her church or the FISH food bank. She also enjoys photography and keeps busy making cookies for her four grandchildren. They attend Hood River Alliance Church.


Carol Yates

Carol Yates
Business Manager
Development Director

Carol has been the Business Manager and Development Director of Operations at Horizon Christian School since 1994.

Carol attended Washington State University, where she received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Work.  After college she worked as a youth counselor, and then followed her calling to Horizon Christian School providing secretarial and volunteer support.

She states about her work, “It is my joy to work in a Christian School ministry that is committed to young people and their families.”  In her spare time, Carol enjoys reading, hiking, and going places (to see family!). She and her husband, Tom, have four children who all graduated from Horizon Christian School and now live out of the area. They attend First Baptist Church.
