Mr. Block has a BS in Business Administration from the University of Oregon and attended Western Conservative Baptist Seminary. He spent four years in the US Navy as a Disbursing Clerk. He worked for the US Post Office for over 30 years; retiring from the position of Postmaster of White Salmon after 24 years. He has been with Horizon Christian School since March 2005. He and his wife, Carole, have 3 grown children and 3 grandchildren.

Kirk Fisher
Bus Driver
Kirk is a Hood River original. He has lived in the Hood River area his entire life. He has owned and operated Denny’s Place Hamburger & Pizza from 1971-1978 and the Little Bit Ranch Supply from 1983-2003.
Kirk has been a Christian since 1975, and he and his wife, Suzy, attend Grace Baptist Church in White Salmon, WA, where Kirk has taught Sunday School for various age groups for many years. He is currently the janitor for Grace Baptist.
Kirk has been driving the Horizon bus since March 2005. He and his wife, have three grown children and two grand children. Kirk enjoys watching Oregon Duck football games, motorcycle riding, hiking, cooking and hunting. |

Tom Kamp
Secondary Principal
7th-8th Grade English Teacher
Tom Kamp has a Master’s Degree in Education from Covenant College with an emphasis on Educational Leadership and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Secondary Education from Dordt College with a major in physics. He was also selected for the Van Lunen Fellowship which resulted in his participation in the Executive Training for Christian School Leaders course at Calvin College. Prior to moving to Hood River, Tom was head administrator and pre-kindergarten – 5th grade principal of a Christian school in Montana. He has also taught at the secondary level.
Tom and his wife, Melissa, have four young boys. He enjoys sports, outdoor activities, reading, classic cars, mechanics, and aviation. |

Kim Spotts
Elementary Principal
Kim Spotts was appointed as Horizon’s Elementary Principal (Pre-K through 6th grade) in May 2008. She earned her Masters of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Oregon in 1991, and her Bachelors of Science degree in Elementary Education from Oregon State University in 1981. Kim has 22 years of teaching experience in both public and private schools. She has been training teachers both stateside and internationally (Kazakstan and India) for the past 20 years.
Kim and her husband, Bob, live in Hood River and enjoy international travel. Their two sons are both former students of Horizon and their grandchildren are growing up in India.
Kim loves children and is active in children’s ministry at her church. She has been mentoring high school students at Horizon since 2004, enjoys volunteering at the local food bank, watercolor painting and photography.

Carol Yates
Business Manager
Development Director
Carol has been the Business Manager and Development Director of Operations at Horizon Christian School since 1994.
Carol attended Washington State University, where she received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Work. After college she worked as a youth counselor, and then followed her calling to Horizon Christian School providing secretarial and volunteer support.
She states about her work, “It is my joy to work in a Christian School ministry that is committed to young people and their families.” In her spare time, Mrs. Yates, enjoys reading, camping, and hiking.
